FILM(S) MONITORED
DOMINO

Our monitor of “Domino” is below.   Why it was made is a mystery to us, but…made it was!   The BN-W Fall 2005 Music Monitor will be out shortly, but we didn’t want to wait before sharing some good news about two CDs.   Stevie Wonder’s new CD (“A Time 2 Love”) is finally out and of course it’s Stevie so he doesn’t disappoint.   Damian Marley (Bob Marley’s youngest child) also has a CD (“Welcome to Jamrock”) that’s been out for about four weeks and it’s a “must-get CD.”   It’s not your typical reggae mix – every track (14 in total) is good and has a melody and sound of its own.   As you all know by now, we’re lyric people and we’re very happy to report that Wonder and Marley are as well, so they know the importance of using music to not only spread joy, fun, sex, love, and romance, but also using it as a resource to share knowledge about the troubles of the world.   They have the necessary balance that’s greatly lacking in too much of today’s music.   Needless to say, neither artist found it necessary to use the N-word or talk about women in an abusive way on their CD.   How refreshing!

As Marley stated in one of the links below:   “Lyrics is what’s really important about the whole music….If you want to know what we’re all about then check out the lyrics.”   He also states:   “These are difficult years…and this has been a year of signs and wonders and mystics.   We’re in a mind opening time now – a lot of people don’t have material suffering, but spiritual suffering.”   And this is a young brother who was born in 1978.   We guarantee you that you’ll enjoy both CDs – they do something very simple and very welcoming – and that is MAKE SENSE.   (The lyrics are also included with the CDs, so you’ll have no problem singing along with Marley and his smooth accent.  Yeah man!)

With our new monitoring format, we will no longer put the range for the number of times the N-word is used in a film because once is too much, especially if it’s unnecessary and/or excessive usage.   Also, based on the history of White Supremacy in this country and the fact that there’s a connection between Blacks/Jews/White Supremacy that’s worth exploring in general, but specifically as it connects within the entertainment industry, we will include a column (for the monitored films only) that will note if any derogatory Jewish slang terms (kike, hymie, hooknose, etc.) are used.   [ NOTE:   If necessary, see BN-W #34 for a more detailed explanation of the unfortunate need to monitor this.]

If you missed any other BN-W monitors, just send an e-mail to bannword2@yahoo.com and request that it be sent to you.   It’s very hard not to give any content critique on the films we monitor, so we will no longer even attempt to abide by that statement.   But we definitely do continue to highly encourage you to see these films for yourself and, if applicable, make your own judgment call on the N-word usage – appropriate/inappropriate? necessary/unnecessary? sensible/nonsensical? does it add to or take away from the film’s concept? does the N-word have to be used at all? is there a valid reason for doing so? is it mandatory for the scene(s) to be effective? what are the circumstances/situation that necessitate any use of the word? is it just thrown in for humor, fear, crime, insult? are other culturally insulting slang terms used as much as the N-word in the film?   Lots of questions and a whole lot of reasons to wonder what’s the real purpose and thought process behind why these actors, writers, directors, producers, executive producers, distributors, and studios/studio heads and executives give the “greenlight” for these crews to liberally use (or allow to be used) the N-word.

NOTE :   In this film, the N-word is used through a rap song.   There are also many prejudices put on display including an Afghanistan person happily bombing things up, numerous references to the continued falsehoods of Jesus being White and there’s also a “race” mix chart where all the newly created “races,” such as Blacktino, Chinegro, etc., are made from the genetically dominant (??) White “race.”   Come on, everyone knows that’s not true – you learn that in the basic sciences!   Then you have the lead female who’s an over-the-top badmamajama type.   Of course, this film is supposed to be based on the real life story of Domino Harvey, so we’ve got to believe it’s true, right?   Thankfully most people avoided seeing this film and writers who continue to write what they want based on their own opinions and thoughts (they certainly don’t base it on historical research) rather than on socially and scientifically proven FACTS – so luckily the film made only $4.7 million in 2223 theatres for its opening weekend.

Jones]; “Jarhead” [Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhall]; “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” [Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson]; “Rent” [Taye Diggs, Rosario Dawson, Jesse L.
