FILM(S) MONITORED
LITTLE MAN

For this monitor, we saw “Little Man,” which was a waste of time, and that information is farther down in this eNewsletter.

In light of the problems happening in what’s called the Middle East and the Black-Jewish Relations topic we’ve been running for some months now, we’ve been asked to provide some background information.   So below in the usual spot are some links that might help in understanding some of what’s happening.   [For the record, we know that as Black people – or as we prefer, Africans – that neither Israelis nor Arabs have a special liking for us.   Nevertheless, as a topic of interest for today’s world, it’s important to cover this issue regardless of our very long history with both of these groups.]   As we all hopefully know by now, you CANNOT believe or base your facts on the spin that’s provided by the major news media.   If the major news media (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, Associated Press (AP), local television stations, New York Times, Washington Post, etc., etc., etc.) are your only sources of information on this issue, you are definitely misinformed and steered in a certain direction.   Those outlets are owned by a handful of people who want to control the viewpoint on this issue.   You will find code words and terms, such as “Syria,” “Iran,” “fighting terrorism,” “the kidnapping [or capturing] of two Israeli soldiers,” “defend herself,” used repeatedly by media anchors, commentators, and most guests for embedding purposes that can be very effectively digested if you’re not a critical thinker while viewing this blatantly biased material and manipulation at its best.

Film critic Kam Williams describes the media perfectly as “Israeli flag-waving cable news networks” whose “airwaves have been saturated by hawkish Neocons, all belaboring the identical, tautological talking point, namely, that Israel has the right to defend herself.”   Here’s the complete article:   Kam Williams - Op-Ed:   Israel Overreacts.   Pat Buchanan even has a reasonable viewpoint on this topic where he closes with the following:   “How much must America pay for the education of this man [George W. Bush]?”   Also in relation to the media’s bias (such as how Israel is always somehow “retaliating” for its actions) on this issue is a documentary called Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land:   U.S. Media & the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.   Below are three links, which include a Google video.   More insightful links to some alternative media on this topic follow after the “BN-W’s Most Interesting Web Sites/Links/Articles of the Day” section.

INTERESTING WEB SITES/LINKS/ARTICLES OF THE DAY :

Dave Chappelle - Pixie Skit
[This is the skit that supposedly caused Chappelle to re-evaluate his actions and the image he was portraying.   If you can make it through the skits, the commentary by a Black woman near the end about (Black) negative vs. (White) positive stereotype portrayals is on target.   You may also want to read BN-W #26, which can also be found on the BN-W site under the “Dave Chappelle” link.]

As we mentioned in BN-W #54 the conclusion of Part II:   Black-Jewish Relations will be included with the Winter/Spring 2006 Music Monitor (it’s obviously late, but it’s definitely coming!).   As we also stated, we’ve got a lot of information, and, for that reason, until Part II comes out, we’ll be filtering stuff to you so it won’t be too overwhelming in the buildup to Part II’s conclusions.   Refer to BN-W #53/54 if you need a repeat of our feelings on the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

In closing, to have a better understanding of why the media may operate the way it does and why politicians whose primary concern is usually maintaining their funding source act the way they do, we encourage you to – once again – read the links below for Who Rules America? (originally in BN-W #53) and The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy Working Paper (originally in BN-W #60 ).   As always, we also highly encourage you to do your own research to verify the facts.

If you missed any other BN-W monitors, just send an e-mail to bannword2@yahoo.com and request that it be sent to you.   As always, we highly encourage you to see these films for yourself and, if applicable, make your own judgment call on the N-word usage – appropriate/inappropriate? necessary/unnecessary? sensible/nonsensical? does it add to or take away from the film’s concept? does the N-word have to be used at all? is there a valid reason for doing so? is it mandatory for the scene(s) to be effective? what are the circumstances/situation that necessitate any use of the word? is it just thrown in for humor, fear, crime, insult? are other culturally insulting slang terms used as much as the N-word in the film?   Lots of questions and a whole lot of reasons to wonder what’s the real purpose and thought process behind why these entertainers, writers, directors, producers, executive producers, distributors, and studios/studio heads and executives give the “greenlight” for these crews to liberally use (or allow to be used) the N-word.
